BMW has confirmed the full-season driver line-up for the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing team by revealing that Tommy Milner and Dirk Muller will join the previously announced pairing of Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand.
Both Milner and Muller have previous experience with BMW, and Martin Birkmann, motorsports manager for BMW North America, said that it had been key to both drivers being chosen for the programme.
"With the high level of competition already established in the American Le Mans Series' GT2 class, the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team is moving into a very fast lane," he said. "Previous BMW M3 and American Le Mans Series GT racing experience were critical parameters in our driver selection process.
“The addition of Tommy Milner and Dirk Muller to Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand gives us a highly qualified driver line-up."
Milner began his racing career in 2004 as a Formula BMW USA Junior driver and debuted in the ALMS in 2006, going on to race for Rahal Letterman Racing in 2007 during its season long entry with a Porsche 911. He then moved over to PTG for 2008, partnering Hand in a Panoz Esperante.
"I'm very pleased to be racing for BMW," he said. "Following the start of my career as a Formula BMW Junior driver in 2004, I've also had some of my best results driving previous generation M3s. I hope to continue those successes in 2009 for the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team."
German driver Muller held a role as a BMW factory driver for a number of years and took the 2001 GT class title in an M3 GTR.
Having raced for Tafel Racing in 2008 in a Ferrari 430, Muller said he was pleased to be back with the BMW family for the new season.
"I am honoured to be part of the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team and to be working with BMW of North America and Bobby Rahal," he said. "I enjoyed being part of the BMW family from 2001 until 2006 so this makes me feel like I am home again. I am also happy to have the engine back at the front of the car!"
