Porsche has announced the list of factory drivers that will represent the German marque during the 2009 season.
Ten drivers will line up in Porsche colours for the upcoming campaign in a race of series around the globe, with a number set to compete on American soil.
Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Long – the latter continuing to be the only American factory driver – will start 2009 amongst the favourites for the GT2 title in the American Le Mans Series as they team up at Flying Lizards Motorsport, but they will face competition from Wolf Henzler, who will continue with the Farnbacher-Loles outfit.
Away from the ALMS, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas will chase title success in the Grand-Am Rolex Series with Penske Racing while another man previously with Penske, Sascha Maassen, has yet to finalise his schedule for the year ahead – although he will compete at the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Back in Europe, Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz will team up together for the Proton team in the Le Mans Series, with Patrick Pilet amongst their rivals with the IMSA Performance squad.
Emmanuel Collard meanwhile will continue in the FIA GT Championship after inking a deal with the Penders squad for the year ahead.
“I'm very pleased that I can count on ten world class pilots in the 2009 season,” Porsche executive Hartmut Kristen said. “They have all competed for Porsche for at least a year and I know the strengths of every single one of them. In addition to the core series that we've chosen for our drivers, some of them will also contest other individual events.”
