British pair pleased with Dyson deal.

Guy Smith and Marino Franchitti have admitted their pleasure at the news that both will remain with the Dyson Racing team for the 2009 American Le Mans Series season.

Smith will go into his fourth season as part of the Dyson team, which will switch from the Porsche RS Spyder to a closed-coupe Lola-Mazda for the season ahead, and will be partnered once again by Chris Dyson in the #16 machine.

Having had his first taste of the car during a recent test session at Sebring, the 34-year-old said he was excited about the season ahead.

“It was great to be back in a racing car after the winter break and our new Lola/Mazda package performed tremendously,” he said. “We have a very good benchmark in our category with the Acura/Fernandez team and I look forward to having a great fight with them this season. The Dyson team are working hard on developing the new package and this is what they do best.

“I am thrilled to be remaining with Dyson Racing,” confirmed Smith. “We'll be in a position to work side by side with Lola and Mazda to develop the package to its full potential. Rob and Chris Dyson have been very good to me and I hope I can repay them with the LMP2 Championship title but it'll obviously be very tough – I'm looking forward to driving with Chris again.”

Franchitti meanwhile will continue to partner Butch Leitzinger in the sister car and was equally delighted with confirmation of his drive.

"I am delighted to be back with Dyson Racing,” he said. “Continuity and chemistry are such vital ingredients and amongst the team and drivers we have them both in abundance.

"I am also very pleased to be working with Mazda and Lola; together with the team and our new partners, including BP and Michelin, I am sure we can develop a really competitive package and hopefully top it all by winning the ALMS championship."
