Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin has announced that he will contest the London Marathon again in 2009, with proceeds raised from his participation going to Bowel Cancer UK.

Gavin will join together with a group of runners from his village of Yardley Hastings to take part in the event, with the choice of charity being inspired by the fact that Gavin lost his father-in-law to the disease back in October.

Another member of the team also lost his father to bowel cancer a few years ago.

"We're a mixed bunch, some fast and some slower, but we all share a determination to complete the marathon for this good cause, Bowel Cancer UK," Gavin said. "I know times are difficult right now, we've all been credit crunched and need to tighten our belts, but any support you can give us, however small, will all help to improve people's lives and increase the chances of survival for many.

"You can sponsor us online with a debit or credit card at our Just Giving page - www.justgiving.com/yardleymarathonrunners. Just Giving sends your donation straight to Bowel Cancer UK and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

"I'm again keen to try and break the three hour mark but I recognise that all conditions will have to be right for me to do so! Thank you for your continued support."
