Oliver Gavin came out on top in the traditional Corvette head-to-head during GT1 qualifying for the 2009 Sebring 12 Hours, the British driver looking to secure victory in the team's 10th anniversary event.

With just two entries, both from Corvette, making up the GT1 category, the battle for pole position honours came down to reigning champion Gavin and two-time Sebring pole sitter Jan Magnussen.

In the end it was Gavin, himself a three-time pole position winner at Sebring, who got the edge on his Danish team-mate, albeit by a mere three tenths of a second.

"It's great to come away with a pole as we begin the 10th anniversary for Corvette Racing," Gavin, who will share his car with long-time partner Olivier Beretta and Marcel Fassler. "Anytime you manage to beat Jan in qualifying, you've earned your money.

"Sebring is a tough event, very hard on the cars and the drivers, and great preparation for Le Mans. Everyone is very mindful of the fact that Le Mans is the goal, but all of us would like to have the first 10th anniversary victory here in Sebring."
