The Dyson Racing team produced an encouraging performance in qualifying for the second round of the new ALMS season at St Petersburg.
Following on from a challenging start to life with the new Lola-Mazda package at Sebring, both cars were able to qualify within half a second of the LMP2 pole-sitting Acura, with the #20 having earlier set the class pace for large parts of practice.
The result has boosted confidence in a solid result from the weekend as the team looks to score its first points of the year, with Chris Dyson admitted that the closed coupe Lola would be well-suited to the St Petersburg streets.
“After our first test with these cars, we thought that they would do well on street courses,” he said. “This is a fast, high downforce track that is very smooth, allowing you to lower the car, and get the most out of the Lola package.
“From a driver's standpoint, it is one of the better laid-out street courses. At an hour and fifty-five minutes, tomorrow's race will put a premium on a quick sprint pace and today's qualifying gave us the confidence we will be right in the mix.”
