Brabham returns to Bathurst with sights set on podium

Fresh from his ALMS title success, David Brabham returns to Mount Panorama in search of a podium visit in the Bathurst 1000.

David Brabham will again underline his versatility this weekend as, having clinched back-to-back ALMS sportscar titles, he heads back to his native Australia to tackle the classic V8 Supercar event at Bathurst's Mount Panorama.

The IRWIN Racing recruit has settled into the Ford Falcon he will share with regular incumbent Alex Davison, and is ready to attack at this weekend's Supercheap Auto 1000 following a steady outing at Phillip Island recently.

Brabham, who won his second consecutive American Le Mans Series title in the US last weekend and drove his first V8 Supercar in four years at the L&H 500 last month, felt comfortable in the IRWIN Ford and now has a Bathurst 1000 podium firmly in his sights.

“My goal was to get in the top ten at Phillip Island, this was the first step, but the next step is to get on the podium at Bathurst,” he said.

“At Phillip Island, I had to focus a lot on myself, not worry about what was happening around me and just plug away at it. The thing I took away from that weekend was confidence, which I'll take with me to Bathurst.”

Brabham drove superbly during his double stint at the L&H 500, impressing everyone with his consistently fast lap times, which matched those of series champions Jaimie Whincup and Mark Skaife.

As a result, Brabham believes that he has grown accustomed to driving a V8 Supercar a lot faster than he's previously experienced.

“I don't think it's actually taken me that long to feel comfortable again, which is really good, and this comes from the support of everyone at IRWIN Racing,” he noted.

“The transition [from sportscars] has been fast, it was just a quick question of me working on myself to be honest.

“It was just prior to the [Phillip Island] race that I felt 'yeah, I can now contribute to the team' in terms of my pace and feedback.
