Exactly what I have been advocating since the proposed cuts in MotoGP budgets! Let the satellite teams have their own championship, even a ceremony on the podium? This will effectively mean two races within one, but at least the privateers will have something to aim for instead of just making-up the numbers on the grid.

Maybe Dorna could allocate a bigger share of the prize fund to the satellite championship too!

Cecchinello cames out with a good idea, but I do not think that a championship inside another will be possible. Maybe something like what is been done in the WTCC, with Independents Throphy, will be more acceptable.

The idea is OK but it would need a full grid of bikes to make it worthwhile....as it is with a pathetic field of 17 bikes there's a strong possibility that every finisher will get points anyway...to then award a separate trophy for a satellite rider would look kind of limp...hell, why not put all the finishers on the podium and give them a medal, there'll be enough space!

We had this in the early days of Motocross in the USA.
Any time our guys race European riders, there was a trophy for First American. After our guys learned to play the game it was no longer necessary

So what's being advocated here? There are only 17 riders, maybe less before the end of the year. 8 factory bikes (four of them more factory than the others) racing in one championship and 9 in the satellite championship. Perhaps there should even be a third championship for the teams that don't get updates throughout the year due to a serious lack of funds. As I understand it, the BBC got the TV contract so as MotoGP would attract a mainsteam audience. Round One: 500000 viewers (I'm in a generous mood) Round Two: 5000 diehards. Joe Public fell asleep during Round One and has never woken up again.

newbie here

Having only recently "discovered" motogp last year, I'm still trying to understand all the facets of the sport.

If I understand the satelite teams correctly, are their bikes are "intentionaly" inferior???

What are the motivations of a privateer team. Are they out there to try and beat the odds. Are they filler? Why wouldn't a factory team offer the same spec bikes to all participants :?
