GT3 Porsche for Bilimoria

Phiroze Bilimoria is to return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship after concluding a deal to compete in the remainder of the 2006 season.

Bilimoria, who competed in the final round of the 2004 season in a Tech 9 Porsche and was linked that a seat with the Project-X Racing team that had planned to run an MG SV last season, will partner Nigel Redwood in a GT3 class Porsche 997 run by RPM Motorsport – who also run two cars in the GTC class.

Having taken a year out of racing last year to focus on establishing his corporate driver day company 'TrackSensation', 30-year old Bilimoria will rejoin the British GT series with backing from mechanical and electrical quantity surveying specialists MPG Associates and MPG Civils, who have joined forces to back the Indian racer for the remainder of the season.

“Phiroze's talent, drive and determination are a perfect symbol for MPG who recently won the professional services award for the 'best place to work in construction',” MPG's Michael Gallucci and Giles Baron said. “We wish Phiroze and the RPM Team every success and we will be there cheering him on."

Bilimoria himself said he was looking forward to rejoining the championship as RPM join Trackspeed, Lotus Sport Cadena, Barwell and Damax in running a car in the series to the new GT3 regulations, with his focus in the long-term firmly fixed on competing on the biggest stage of them all.

"Le Mans has always been a dream of mine and of course Porsche is synonymous with that great race,” he said. “The British GT Championship is very prestigious and a solid proving ground for young drivers looking at Le Mans, so I was really excited to get the deal done and to race with one of the top teams in the highly competitive series.”

Bilimoria will make his debut in the new car at Rockingham next month.
