RPM has announced that will field a pair of GT3-specification Dodge Viper Competition Coupes in the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

The two Vipers will run alongside a pair of Porsche 997 GT3s in an exciting move for the team that finished second in the GTC teams' classification in 2006 behind Trackspeed.

The decision to field four of the strongest cars from the new FIA GT3 European Championship – with the Viper and 997 taking eight wins from ten races in the first season of racing – means RPM will start the new season amongst the front-runners in the GT3 class, and as one of the favourites for the out-right title should the GT2 class be canned for the new season.

"The GT3 class has been gathering momentum throughout 2006,” RPM team boss Robin Mortimer said. “It seems clear to me that in the UK at least, it will be the future of GT racing.

“RPM have always run Porsches in the past which have been superb and yielded many race wins for us, but by adding a pair of Vipers to our fleet, which have shown their racing pedigree throughout the 2006 FIA GT3 Championship, I believe it will only make the team stronger and take us closer to our goal of winning the championship in 2007.

"We will be fielding the two most competitive marques proven by FIA GT3 in 2006."

RPM fielded cars in both the GTC and GT3 classes during the 2006 season, with Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis securing three wins in the GTC class en route to a share of third in the drivers' championship. A GT3 class 997 also made an appearance in the final round of the year for Phiroze Bilimoria and Phil Glew.

RPM will announce drivers for its 2007 campaign in due course.
