Audi set for British GT bow at Oulton
29 March 2010
The new United Autosports team are to give the Audi R8 LMS its debut in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in the season opener at Oulton Park this weekend.
The team will use the Easter Weekend meeting as part of its preparations for an assault on the FIA GT3 European Championship.
American pair Michael Guasch and Mark Patterson will drive one of the two cars, while the sister machine will be driven by United Autosports managing director Richard Dean and team co-owner Zak Brown.
Brown was due to share his car with Argentine racer Pablo Perez Companc, but he has been forced to shelve his plans to race due to the injuries he sustained in an Indy Pro Series race back in 2007, which caused discomfort when testing the car in Portugal earlier this month.
“Pablo is having medical advice on his rehabilitation and everyone at United Autosports wishes him a speedy and full recovery,” Dean said. “Because of the time constraints the simplest thing is for me to drive at Oulton Park then find a permanent replacement in time for the opening FIA races in May.
“I briefly drove the Audi R8 LMS in Portugal and again at Silverstone last week and it's a beautiful piece of engineering so it won't be too much of a hardship for me!”
Dean is only due to race the Audi in Cheshire, with the Anglo-American outfit evaluating possible replacements for Companc for the European campaign.
