United Autosports enjoyed a solid debut with its Audi R8 LMS during the opening rounds of the Avon Tyres British GT
Championship at Oulton Park.
The team took part in the British GT
season-opener ahead of its campaign in the FIA
GT3 European Championship, with three drivers making their Oulton Park
debuts during the course of the weekend.
Michael Guasch and Mark Patterson took eighth place in the opening race of the weekend and followed that up with fifth in race two, while Zak Brown and Richard Dean – the only driver to have raced at Oulton Park
in the past – took a brace of fourth places.
That was despite the fact that the team was hit with a 30 second penalty on its pit-stops for the Brown/Dean car due to Dean's driver ranking.
Without that added time penalty, the #23 R8 could have secured a brace of second place finishes and Brown said there were plenty of positives to take from the weekend.
“We achieved at Oulton Park
exactly what we set out to do,” he said. “To score four top-eights is awesome and to end the day with both cars finishing in the top-five is stunning. This weekend was all about the team further gelling together in readiness for the start of the FIA
GT3 Euro series which begins next month. For the drivers and engineers to learn more about the Audi R8 LMS, and as importantly, each other and of course, for the mechanics to get more hands-on time with the cars in a race environment.
“Everyone involved at United Autosports have worked incredibly hard in recent weeks to get us on the grid for these races. I'm thrilled with what we've already achieved in such a short space of time in what is a massive learning curve for us all.”
