Johnson escapes injury after 150mph off

Dave Johnson has escaped without major injury following his high-speed crash in the second Bennetts British Superbike race of the weekend at Knockhill.

The Maxxis Honda rider was a passenger heading into turn one at the end of the home straight when the retaining pin on the front brake calliper broke whilst running at 150mph.

Hitting the curb as his bike went out of control, Johnson was knocked off the bike and sent spearing into the air barrier at considerable speed. Even worse, Johnson's bike hurtled into the path of SMT Honda's Tom Grant, who was cleanly taken off his machine.

Remarkably, Johnson suffered only minor bruising and was discharged from the medical centre after just an hour, much to the relief of team boss John Jameson

“After the crash, Dave was taken immediately to the medical centre where he was assessed by Toby [Branfoot] and the rest of the medics. Thankfully, he only suffered minor bruising and was placed on observations for about an hour, after which time he was discharged.”

The team still came away with some points though after Johnson finished 13th in the first race of the weekend. nonetheless, Jameson is hoping for better luck next time out at Cadwell Park.

“We are happy with the points scored in the first race. The three points from a 13th place finish shows we are still moving forward, although we still need to do more. We have had our share of bad luck recently, so hopefully, it will be behind us as we move to Cadwell Park for the next round.”
