Airwaves extends GSE sponsorship

Wrigley's Airwaves will continue as the title sponsor for the GSE Racing team in the 2009 British Superbike season, it has been confirmed.

The chewing gum brand has been the team's distinctive backer since GSE Racing returned to BSB in 2005, a partnership that has since yielded two title wins.

There had been some speculation over whether Airwaves would continue to back GSE after their decision to leave Ducati in favour of Yamaha for 2009, while the effect of the credit crunch is also beginning to take its toll on other sponsorship deals.

Nonetheless, having expanded their involvement in motorsport this year through sponsorship deals in the World Rally Championship, Airwaves has elected to stay on board for 2009.

“Airwaves has had four fantastic years as title sponsor of GSE Racing and we're looking forward to continuing our association as Airwaves Yamaha in 2009,” said Toby Baker, Wrigley's marketing director.

“After a title winning season in 2008 I know the team will be working hard to maintain our status as the best team in the paddock. With two talented riders in Leon Camier and James Ellison, Airwaves Yamaha is sure to provide more superb racing.”

“The Airwaves Yamaha sponsorship is a superb fit for our brand values and 'Kick Up a Gear' vision. We've worked hard in activating our sponsorship for the benefit of everyone involved in the sport and are looking forward to continuing this relationship.”

GSE team manager Colin Wright was also delighted to have Airwaves back on board as they embark on a new chapter in the team's history.

“I am extremely pleased that Wrigley's Airwaves will continue to support GSE Racing as we compete for a record fifth British Superbike championship. Next season will mark the start of an exciting new era for the team and one which would not be possible without the support of sponsors such as Airwaves.”
