...and how many riders go hard enough through the Foggy Esses on THE PARADE LAP to induce a tank slapper of sufficient magnitute to push the pads off the front discs and cause this sort of accident?

You would expect him to remember such an incident and at the very least report it to the stewards, never mind mention it during his interview on TV.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if he wasn't riding for one of the top teams in the championship..?

Josh Brookes should have his racing license revoked. In a race, fair enough. On the warm up lap? Somebody capable of making an error like that is not fit to race. He's wrecked the championship. If his team lied to cover it up they should be thrown out too.

Yeah but he has never mentioned a tank slapper. They are rather memorable experiences after all..

It wasn't a 'parade' lap, it was a warm up lap..an opportunity for riders to check and test their machines before the race, and doing so requires obviously, exploring limits. Seems like SG might have been treating it like a parade lap though, which should have been left for the post race.

I for one am going to stick in for Josh. Having been at Donington yesterday and watching the replay on youtube i honestly think there was a problem with the brakes on that bike. Like said in an earlier post he was never going to make the loop and if SG was not in the way josh was in the gravel at a great speed. Even afer colliding with SG it would appear JB could not slow the bike down and went into the gravel. Josh is a world class rider who has ridden and won at Donington many times before. When being interviewed on the grid in the 2nd race Josh could not apologies enough for what had happened saying there was a problem with the brakes. I i for one believed him as he sounded 100% genuine.

A lot of the posters on this article seem to have found themselves on the wrong site..this isn't the British Knitting Championships! Errors and mistakes happen, they are not deliberate, but they happen! Often when a mistake on a motorcycle happens, riders get injured, racers and riders know and accept this.

Rob, not sure where your reference to knitting comes from, however with due respect, you do appear to be somewhat pedantic with regards to the nomenclature of the first lap out of the pits prior to forming on the grid. General convention is that the lap prior to the start of the race is the "warm-up lap" when riders perform as you suggest in your previous post.

This incident did not happen on the warm-up lap. Yes accidents can happen, nobody is suggesting otherwise, but Josh's behaviour cannot be excused in these circumstances.

Maybe there should be something written in the rules to suggest the first lap out of the pits is ridden as a parade lap and not at anything like race pace. There may be something already in place, but i was standing near Starkeys Bridge and watching them go through Schwantz curve and i can tell you they were not going slowly.

It's not a parade lap, they are not there doing a lap for our entertainment. The sighting lap is a chance for the riders to check the condition of the track pre race and to check there isnt an issue with the bike or tyres, which can be deemed neccessary doing race pace, accidents happen.. I was sat at the esses yesterday and it didnt in no way lead to boring races, well done to Camier, Ellison Walker and Easton great racing lads..

Guintoli is not innocent from causing another rider injuries, as well as Rossi, Stoner, everyone makes mistakes, the top guys dont get punished so why punish brookes??

I'm gonna play devils advocate here and say that after watching the replay 1000's of time (read, about 30), it appears that Guintoli, who is obviously going slower than Brookes, turns into the melbourne loop earlier than what you would think, ie, off the racing line and into the path of Brookes. Maybe Brookes saw the two riders in front of him and at the speed he was going, tried to slide up the inside but had no room and hit Guintoli. Not saying anyone is right or wrong, I just think it's a 'racing' incident. Still, a bit more care and attention wouldn't go amiss.
