One reason BSB has been so successful is that the rules have always matched WSB.
WSB has accepted the 1200 and alternative pistons, with restrictors and added weight to prevent any performance advantage.
It is crass of the BSB organisers not to follow suit.
The 999 can't remain competitive, and anyway why would Ducati want to continue racing it when they stopped making the 999 a year ago? Hardly any marketing advantage there.
If the BSB organisers don't get their heads out of their *** very quickly, next season will have lost both the top four riders and one of the top teams - it will be a very lame affair.

BSB » GSE withdrawal triggers rider frenzy

"The sticking point is that BSB requires a standard piston and Ducati require a dispensation."

Its going to be a totally different BSB next year, with this year's top 4 moving on, but I'm sure next year will be strong, and maybe finally we'll get a British British Superbike Champion!

This is Ducati trying to blackmail superbike again. They always want an advantage, be it in BSB or WSB. Now they want a capacity advantage and an engine tuning advantage. The 999 is still competetive whatever they say.

its not that the 999 is uncompetitive as such mark, more that its reached the very end of its development cycle, and by next year will not be able to compete with any of the top bikes.

As for ducati wanting an advantage, the pistons will give the bikes no advantage, just merly make it cheaper, and much more safer to run.

100% right JdeM.
New riders and new teams (MV, KTM, BMW, Aprilia) all come to WSB.
Top riders and teams (HRC & GSE) leave BSB.
Next thing ITV drops BSB and shows WSB instead.
Death of BSB.
RIP

I agree that BSB should mirror WSB because who will be Britain's rep next year? Come to that we only had 2 this year. However a word to Ducati, we are not stupid, of course it will give Ducati a benefit (if not it will be the first time!!), but that has been decided by your bosses and WSB bosses so lets make the best of it and get on with putting on a great 2008.

So this time it's blackmailing for better pistons,2009 what will it be conrods or crankshafts or even less weight.
Ducati's have always been given advantages, about time they got brought back to an more even playing feild.
Don't get me wrong I love the way they stick it to the Japs but but only by fair and square means.

John, I dont believe that running dirfferent pistons will make it any safer at all. They want better pistons to cope with more power. The Jap bikes have to run on standard pistons so why can't Ducati? I agree that the 999 is at the end of it's development cycle, but Ducati have been in WSB from the start and knew the rules but still decided to develop a 1200 twin and then hold Superbikes to randsom.

Just my 2p :)
