It's nothing to do with the recession - they have recognised that since JP bought the series, since all the best riders left, since Ducati withdrew, since no terrestrial TV coverage, since stupid meddling with the rules, the series is dying on its feet.
Don't blame em - I would do the same.

Well, it just goes to show that businesses across the board are affected by this recession, no one is imune to the credit crunch.

I'm sure they spent million over the last four years on Moto GP, WorldSBK and of course BSB, it's done alot for Bennetts, everyone knows who they are now but as you say that no one is safe from the effects of this dreadful credit crunch.

It'll make raising sponsorship almost impossible for teams, riders/drivers and championships, it'll be very interesting to see who will grasp the nettle and start spending when others are holding back, very interesting.

err no to your credit crunch comments, as the man says in his report the reasons for not doing it anymore,,, they are after sponsoring something different,,, end of the day the sponsorship of the BSB dosent bring in enough revenew for the cost of being at the BSB rounds. lets face it they aint the cheapest bike insurers around!!!

Or, the alternate way of looking at it:

Sponsorship doesn't last for ever. The ONLY reason sponsors get involved in sport is to promote themselves. However, if you've put a lot into racing - as Bennetts have done - then there reaches a point where you won't get any more out of it by still being there. 'Bennetts British Superbikes' rolls off the tongue quite easily even after only a couple of years - a bit like how you still often hear people saying 'Alstare Corona Suzuki' even though Corona don't sponsor anymore.

Sponsorship IS finite.

Quite surprised about this, no doubt a big shock to MSVR and it just throws another spanner in the works. I dont agree with the comment about BSB dying though. I think like every series, there comes a time when there is a real boom around the quality of riders and then it drops off. Maybe the standard in 2009 wont be quite as high as the last few years but its not to say that we wont see emerging talent coming through. Its still exciting close action racing and I cant wait for the season to begin.

I reckon the sponsor might not be motorcycle related though

The lack of terrestrial TV coverage I think is surely a factor why oh why must I miss all the action in our own national series !
