Bruising end to weekend for Mason

Gary Mason was left feeling somewhat worse for wear following the second British Superbike Championship race at Snetterton after 'head-butting' the screen on his Quay Garage Honda.

Having seen his 100 per cent winning record in the Mirror.co.uk Superbike Cup end with a retirement in the first race, Mason resumed his winning ways in race two with a run to 14th position overall.

However, in his attempts to keep Jon Kirkham at bay on the final lap, he ran wide at the chicane, hitting a bump and putting his helmet through the front screen of his Honda.

Leaving him feeling rather dazed – beyond the bump to the head -, Mason is looking ahead to Knockhill now after a difficult Snetterton weekend.

“I just protected my line when I passed Kirkham, so I went in a bit deep at the last chicane. I ran wide and there a big drop off and i was in the air and my head went through the screen, I nearly got him on the line but I hurt the old private parts!

“We had a DNF in the first race, but that's racing and we've had a good run. We were due for a bad weekend, so hopefully this is the one and we can move on to Knockhill.”

Saw it in detail Gary as we were positioned on the the final chicane, couldn't believe how you managed to stay on! Fair play for keeping the throttle pinned!! (Edingale crew)
