Camier breaks Knockhill duck, matches Byrne

Leon Camier is striding towards the 2009 ViSK.com British Superbike Championship title after notching up his ninth and tenth wins of the season at Knockhill in comprehensive style.

Beginning to exert a dominance that even former team-mate Shane Byrne was unable to show during his title-winning year last season, while Camier missed out on pole position, he was able to rise to the front during the early stages of both races.

Particularly pleased to get a good start on each occasion, although Camier was frustrated by the late emergence of a safety car during the opening encounter, he was delighted to complete a relatively comfortable victory.

"My start in Race One was miles better than any other I've had this season. I wanted to get past Josh Brookes straight away. I then followed Stuart Easton for a little bit, and made a pass as soon as I could. Once I was in the lead, I just got my head down. I managed to go quicker than my qualifying time.

“When I saw the safety car being deployed I thought 'that's just what I need'. All my work to build a gap meant nothing. In the laps behind the Safety Car I was thinking through a plan for the re-start. I decided to gas it but wheelied so had to back off, before gassing it again."

Signalling a maiden victory for the GSE Racing team at Knockhill, Camier went on to double up later in the day after prevailing in an engaging tussle with Josh Brookes.

"I got another good start to Race Two, only losing one place. I saw Josh Brookes start to make a break at the front so I passed Stuart Easton the first chance I got. I had a good fight with Josh for the lead. I really enjoyed battling him for a couple of laps.

“Once in front, it was a case of keeping focused until the flag. It felt awesome to get the first ever win for Airwaves Yamaha at Knockhill. To get a double is something else!"

Camier tenth win – his sixth in a row – already puts him level with Byrne in the number of wins achieved during one season, while his lead in the standings is now 78 points.

Gotta agree there. As nice as it is to see Brookes up there and getting to grips with the bikes and British circuits, it'd be even nicer to see Guintoli up there.

There's something up with Easton's bike, he has the pace in the first third or so of every race, but just can't seem to keep it up? Hopefully the new KTech shocks will help with tyre wear and give ratboy his first win.

Poor show Crash - where's the pictures from Knockhill? The walker pic. is from Donington BSB at Foggy's and this Camier shot is from WSB (22 plate.)
