Ellison ends weekend on podium

James Ellison was satisfied with his race performance during the latest round of the ViSK.com British Superbike Championship, despite a tricky start to the weekend.

Having qualified in sixth position, Ellison was running behind Karl Harris when the Hydrex Honda rider came down directly in front of him and forced the Airwaves Yamaha man to stop in his tracks.

Fighting his way back to fifth position, Ellison was pleased with his rapid progress back through the field, even if he rued being caught up in an incident that didn't involve him.

"My start in race one wasn't great,” he said. “The front wheel lifted and I entered the first corner pretty far down the order. I gave myself a bit of work to do but I knew our race pace was good. I could chip away at the guys in front.

“When Karl Harris crashed in front of me, I had to come to a complete stop. I couldn't believe it. I fought constantly to make the places back up. I passed at nearly every corner of the circuit. I had to. The race was fun and I was pleased to be able to get back up to fifth, but the first lap incident was frustrating."

The podium beckoned in race two, Ellison managing to get the better of Michael Rutter and Stuart Easton to finish third.

"Race two really made up for race one. I had a few tactics for the start and they paid off. Colin Wright thought I'd actually jumped the start my reactions were that much quicker. It was a tough race. It took me a while to pass Michael Rutter. He made himself very wide!

“Once I'd passed Stuart Easton I was feeling really comfortable on the Airwaves Yamaha. If only we'd had a few more laps I think I could have made it to second."

It's been pointed out by a few that all I do is put James down so I would like to congratulate him on 2 good rides on Sunday. He did well. Leon is just on it big time this year and I know James is trying his best and that is all you can ask. Well done.
