McGuinness eager to translate TT success

John McGuinness is hoping to follow in the wheel tracks of Steve Brogan and Richard Cooper by flying the flag for the National Superstock Championship when he rides for HM Plant Honda in the British Superbike category at Cadwell Park.

McGuinness has been drafted in to replace the injured Glen Richards for one of the next two BSB rounds, the Isle of Man TT legend getting the chance to ride for the factory Honda team around the notorious Cadwell Park.

The latest Superstock rider to jump aboard a Superbike, McGuinness thanked the team for the opportunity, but admits he was feeling more nervous before his test than he was on the way to a new TT record.

"I tested the HM Plant Honda Superbike at Cadwell Park last week, sharing it with Brogie. I have not had much opportunity to ride a Superbike on track as my main experience on it is from road racing. I have had a few rides in BSB before but this is a great opportunity for me. Honda has been loyal to me and it feels good to have been offered the chance.

“I was a bit nervous before the test, more than I was before the Isle of Man races actually, as I didn't really know what to expect. HM Plant Honda is a well respected team, this is a good chance for me and I'd like to thank Neil (Tuxworth) for giving me the opportunity.

“I have no stone unturned on the roads for Honda and I have had a good season so far in Superstock with the Padgetts team. Seeing how Brogie and Richard Cooper rode at Mallory Park was quite inspirational for me, so I want to put on a good performance at Cadwell Park in a few weeks' time and do us all proud."
