Ellison picks up ninth podium

James Ellison was able to join in on the Airwaves Yamaha celebrations in the latest rounds of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship as he picked up his ninth podium of the season at Brands Hatch.

The triple-header weekend on the full GP circuit saw the GSE-run team secure its 100th victory for team manager Colin Wright, while points leader Leon Camier took a hat-trick of victories to secure a new record of 14 wins in a single season.

Ellison himself had to wait until the final race of the weekend to break onto the podium – having earlier posted finishes of sixth and fifth in races one and two – but the Cumbrian rider was pleased to end the event with a third place finish and a part in the team's celebrations.

"My start in race two wasn't too bad, but I struggled behind a couple of riders who were blocking me everywhere," he said. "I was trying every chance I could to get by, but once I'd passed them, I managed to pull a gap. We made big changes between each race and improved the handling each time. I also needed to get a better start, which I did!

"In the third race the package felt a lot better. Every session we've managed to improve our times. I even broke into the 1min 26sec barrier in race two. It's such a relief to get on to the podium and be a part of Colin's celebrations."
