Having been robbed of victory at Mallory Park, Simon Andrews saw luck finally turn his way when a first BSB podium was handed to him after the flag at Cadwell Park on Monday.

Fifth in race one, the Confused.com Kawasaki rider looked set for fourth place in race two - until race winner Leon Camier was disqualified for failing to stop when blue smoke began spewing from his Yamaha.

“It's all been a bit of a surprise, really,” admitted Andrews. “I haven't so much as ridden a bike for eight weeks and to come back and be this competitive is fantastic.

“I'm not race fit yet and my wrist is far from 100% so to end up spraying champagne was a bit of a result.

"We may have been gifted a podium by Camier's exclusion but that's just mystic forces at work. He was nowhere at Mallory and was gifted my win when I got punted out at the hairpin, so it evens out today,” he declared.

The podium finish proved a popular result both in and out of the pitlane.

“I was slapped on the back so many times in pit lane it was beginning to sting. And the cheer from the crowd when Simon stepped onto the podium was deafening,” smiled team owner Nick Morgan. “I felt a bit sorry for Stuart [Easton] and James [Ellison] who got barely a whimper by comparison.”

Andrews now lies in fifth in the championship, just one point behind Karl Harris, while team-mate Julien da Costa sits just 5.5 points back in seventh. The Frenchman took solid 6-4 race finishes at Cadwell.

“At last it is nice to race at a circuit I know. The circuit is very narrow and very dangerous but it suits my style,” he said. “I gave it everything today and the results were good but I would still like to have finished a little higher up the order. Simon put a hard pass on me in race one, for which he apologised, but it proved to me I have to be a little harder still. Croft I also know and I am looking forward to another chance to shine brighter.”
