Easton and Hydrex celebrate debut BSB win

Stuart Easton broke an 18-race Airwaves Yamaha domination of the 2009 MCE British Superbike Championship by claiming his and Hydrex Honda's first victory in race one at Croft on Sunday.

Prior to the start of the 20th race of the season, either title leader Leon Camier or team-mate James Ellison had won every race since Sylvain Guintoli's triumph in the Brands Hatch season opener.

Easton, who had finished in second place five times this year, finally went one better after blasting from third to first into turn one and surviving a determined last lap attack from Ellison, whose team-mate Camier had run off track early in the race.

“That was great for me and for the team - this is the first time that I have had a race package that has enabled me to go out and ride for wins,” said the Scotsman.

Team boss Shaun Muir, who made the difficult decision to sack Karl Harris just one round earlier, added: “Our first win, five years in the making and it could not be better on our local circuit. It is just rewards for our hard work and makes it all worthwhile.”

Easton again led during the early part of race two, but this time Camier made no mistakes and beat runner-up Easton by almost nine seconds.

Although mathematically out of the BSB title chase, Easton still has a chance of snatching second place from Ellison, who will start the final five races of the year 32 points ahead.

Easton's new team-mate Tommy Hill finished seventh and sixth.

Truly deserved and he held Ellison off in the dying stages.

Apart from a modest wheelie down the straight after Sunny Out, he seemed to take it in his stride. Saw him as I was leaving Croft on Sunday night and offered my congratulations to which he seemed almost embarrassed when he replied!

Saying that, I think he had his mind on his good lady about to give birth only hours later. So congrats to him and Shaun Muir, whose son James was born only a few hours before Finlay Easton who, according to another well-known website, already weighs more than his Dad!

Not a bad weekend for SMR Hydrex then!
