Quay Garage to step down as title sponsor

Just days after Gary Mason handed Quay Garage Racing its second British Superbike Cup championship, Quay Garage has announced it will step down as title sponsors at the end of the season.

Quay Garage have been involved as a sponsor in BSB since backing James Buckingham in 2003. Buckingham went on to win the British Superbike Cup in 2005 before injury forced him out of the series.

Mason then joined the team part way through the 2008 season and has enjoyed a dominate 2009, lifting the Cup title with two rounds still remaining and holding tenth in the overall BSB standings.

“The Quay Garage business has supported this team for seven very enjoyable years,” said team principal Ian Woollacott. “Being title sponsor of this team has raised their profile massively with fans even dropping into the North Devon based offices on a regular basis.

“As Quay Garage embark on a period of restructuring it was decided that the team were now at a point where they need to step up into the main BSB Championship. We are putting together a more robust infrastructure for 2010 and also have tough decisions to make on new bikes as well as rider line up.

“Moving into the main BSB championship is the obvious next step for a team that have achieved two Cup titles especially as we currently lie tenth the overall championship.

“We now have our work cut out to secure a new title sponsor for 2010 though feel confident that we can offer excellent exposure at a fraction of the cost associated with a number of other teams in the paddock.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Quay Garage for all their support over the years and look forward to working with a new title sponsor next season,” Woollacott concluded.

GSE Racing, which will win the 2009 British Superbike Championship with either Leon Camier or James Ellison, has also lost its title sponsor (Airwaves) for 2010.
