Richards: I can’t believe I was so stupid!

Glen Richards concluded an injury-interrupted 2009 BSB season with eleventh, tenth and eighth place finishes in the Oulton Park triple header - despite 'the most embarrassing thing I have ever done in my race career' during race two.

"I cannot believe I was so stupid,” said the Australian. “The pace car came out which I used as an opportunity to give my leg a bit of a rest, but the only problem was I was still thinking about my leg rather than realising the car had gone in and lost a load of time. I think it's the most embarrassing thing I have ever done in my race career!

“Going into this weekend I wasn't sure how much my leg would be able to stand up to. I'm frustrated that I wasn't able to do better but happy that I gave it my all and was able to return for the last race of the season and finish all three races with reasonable positions,” concluded Richards, who missed five mid-season rounds due to his Knockhill accident and finished the year twelfth overall with one podium.

Despite also failing to complete a full season - due to visa problems, injuries and race bans - team-mate Josh Brookes still managed to claim ten podiums, including a third in the final race of the year, on his way to fourth overall in the standings.

"It's been both a good and frustrating weekend, but I'm pleased to have finished the final race of the season on the podium,” said Brookes.

“We've got a good base setting with the bike but we've been using our time at the races to also try some different set-up directions, which sometimes we get right and sometimes we don't get the result we were looking for, so this has affected my ability to be as consistent as both me and the team would have liked from weekend to weekend.

"In [race two] I didn't feel comfortable with our chosen settings at all, but for race three we made some changes and I felt I was able to push much harder."

HM Plant Honda is yet to confirm its 2010 line-up.

Richard, it is alleged that the mechanic responsible for Glen's bike, re-fitted the front wheel with the brake lines on the wrong side of the carbon mudguard, the brake lines were then damaged during the race by the offending piece of carbon. I seem to remember reading that Xavier admitted to 'brake failure'.
