Linfoot hails 'mega test', Hodgson frustration
8 March 2010
A delighted Dan Linfoot concluded the four day Cartagena BSB test in fourth position - and feels ready to race anybody!
Linfoot outpaced famous Motorpoint Yamaha team-mate Neil Hodgson by half a second thanks to a best lap time of 1min 34.4sec, which was beaten only by the Suzukis of Yukio Kagayama (33.51sec), Tommy Hill (33.53sec) and Michael Laverty (34.3sec).
“Absolutely mega test,” said Linfoot. “Some of the boy's were firing tyres in at the end for a lap time and went a bit faster, but all in all I am really happy. I feel I can race with any of them and can't wait to carry on with the next test in Guadix.”
Meanwhile, former British and World Superbike champion Hodgson admitted to feeling a little frustration at his joint seventh on the unofficial timesheets.
“It has been a great test albeit a little frustrating now it's over, I would like to have finished with a bit better lap but struggled to put the whole lap together,” he explained. “We have really made some good steps forward and I have definitely got more of an understanding of the bike. A new track to learn on Tuesday so that gives me more time on the bike.”
“That's a great way to start our season,” declared team owner Rob Mac. “Four days of very positive track time going forward every day, both the guy's getting stronger with every session. The bikes have been perfect and we move on to Guadix for our next test feeling very positive.”
Rob Mac has told the BSB website that the team's 2010 race bikes are based on the 2009 BSB championship-winning factory R1s, as used by GSE riders Leon Camier and James Ellison.
Although the factory chassis and Ohlins suspension remains, the 2010 engines are being developed by the Motorpoint team itself, since last year's GSE/factory powerplants had reached their mileage limits.
Another change from the '09 GSE specification will be the use of Motec electronics, rather than Marelli.
