Dan Linfoot lands at SMT Honda for 2011
19 January 2011
Dan Linfoot will get a second season in the MCE British Superbike Championship after penning a deal to ride with Sorrymate.com SMT Honda in 2011.
The youngster made his full-time BSB debut with Motorpoint Yamaha in 2010, but while he showed flashes of promise – particularly his front row starting position at the season opener -, he struggled for overall consistency.
Nonetheless, having broken into the top five towards the end of the season on the way to 14th in the standings, Linfoot is pleased to be given the chance to progress further in 2011.
Switching to Honda machinery, Linfoot is confident the SMT Honda team can provide him with a bike capable of pushing him towards the 'showdown'
"I am really excited about the new season and I am eager to get on the Honda, as in the past I have mainly raced Yamahas. You can see what a good package the Fireblade is from their results last season and although I know it will be different, I can't wait to get going.
“The team have proved in the past they can run inside the top five with Karl Harris and last year with Chris Walker so I want to show what I am capable of with the SMT team this season. I will be pushing as hard as I can and I want to be in the Showdown at the final rounds."
Having enjoyed strong results with BSB veterans Michael Rutter, Karl Harris and Chris Walker in the past, SMT team owner Robin Croft believes he has a rider that will challenge for podiums in 2011.
"This is another great step for our team, made possible by the tremendous support of Fergus Dalgarno of sorrymate.com. This, together with signing a rider of Dan's ability will enable us to start our fourth full season in the BSB class with the genuine prospect of visiting the podium."
Linfoot had originally been expected to join Tyco Honda in 2011, but the deal would fall through
