Brookes bounces back with Cadwell podium

30 August 2011

Josh Brookes successfully put the controversy of his earlier disqualification behind him by securing his place in the British Superbike title shootout with a run to the podium in the final race at Cadwell Park.

The Australian was the centre of much attention when he was stripped of his third place finish in the first race at Cadwell Park, Brookes having been considered at fault for his collision with Michael Rutter, who subsequently crashed and sustained a rib injury.

Having argued against the reasons for his exclusion, Brookes turned his attentions to the race track, where he proceeded to finish fourth in race two before slipping between the Swan Yamahas for second in race three.

Results that ensure he makes the title shootout for the second year in succession, Brookes was delighted to be getting a shot at the crown after what has been an occasionally tumultuous first year on the Relentless by TAS Suzuki.

“I was a bit suspicious in the first race that we had a small tyre problem and we wisely didn't change anything on the bike for race two. The whole GSX-R package worked so much better and I was able to fight at the front and finish right on Tommy [Hill's] back wheel.

“Despite a few blips during the season we always knew we were in with a chance of winning the title and we got the chance to prove that this weekend in the results. I'm really pleased how the weekend ended.”

Brookes begins the three-round shootout on 509 points, 20 points behind new leader Hill.
