Hill dominates opening day at Donington

9 September 2011

Tommy Hill has established himself as the man to beat heading into the first of three British Superbike Championship showdown rounds as he topped second practice at Donington Park.

Having paced the morning session by more than a second, Hill's advantage remained a healthy five tenths as he comfortably out-performed his title fighter rivals.

Even so, those rivals are keeping a watching brief with John Hopkins in second, Michael Laverty in third, Shane Byrne fourth and Josh Brookes sixth – the latter staying in contention despite an off at Redgate.

Ahead of him was Jon Kirkham, who continued his strong form from the morning, while Graeme Gowland was a top ten performance once more in seventh. Peter Hickman was one of the afternoon's big winners as he leapt to eighth place, ahead of Barry Burrell on the EVO specification Buildbase BMW.

Behind them, Gary Mason ended his day on the 2012-specification Kawasaki in 12th, ahead of team-mate Ian Lowry in 14th and former team-mate Alex Lowes – now riding the Motorpoint Yamaha - in 15th.
