Ex-WSBK team enters BSB fray

'This decision was really hard and now I can only say that I'm happy to take part in the 2012 British Superbike Championship season with my team' - Danilo Soncini
Former World Superbike team Supersonic Racing has joined the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship for 2012.

Team owner Danilo Soncini will run two riders on BMW S1000RR machines this season.

Formed in 2009, the Supersonic Racing team contested the Italian Superstock Championship before switching to World Superbikes in 2010 with Italian rider Luca Scassa on a Ducati 1198.

Last year, Maxime Berger led the challenge and like Scassa before him had some top ten finishes to show for his efforts.

Looking ahead to the team's debut in BSB this year, Soncini said: "We are proud to announce our decision to join BSB. Last year I decided to leave the World Superbike Championship after two years with a lot of satisfaction and good feeling, but I felt it was necessary to change something in my life.

"This decision was really hard and now I can only say that I'm happy to take part in the 2012 British Superbike Championship season with my team.

"We are absolutely focused on our goals for 2012 with the support of BMW, who will help us directly throughout our journey in this new adventure.

"Our approach for this year is to reach the top as soon as possible with all the passion and the determination that we have always shown in the past."

An Italian team in the British championship... I think nobody expected this will the big change of Soncini. It looks like he is a man who can't really live without racing. Hope the rider line-up will be similarly surprising!
