Hill vows to 'come out fighting' at Brands
3 April 2012
Reigning MCE British Superbike champion Tommy Hill returns to the scene of his epic title triumph as he begins the defence of his crown at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Hill prevailed in an unforgettable climax to the British championship last year at the Kent circuit and the Swan Yamaha star is determined to pick up where he left off on the YZF-R1 on Easter Monday.
“I am looking forward to getting back to Brands Hatch as I have such great memories of the last time I raced there when we won the title. We want to pick up where we left off last year as it is key to come away from the first rounds with some strong finishes so we can carry the momentum to the next round,” he said.
“We have been feeling positive after pre-season testing, but it will come down to Easter Monday when the racing really starts. We have a few things to get dialled out with the Swan Yamaha on Good Friday in the extra test sessions but we are going to come out fighting in the races.”
Hill faces a tough task to hold onto his crown this season, with Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty looking particularly strong during pre-season and a host of international stars intent on making their presence felt, including his team-mate and World Superbike legend Noriyuki Haga.
Add in the Tyco Suzuki pair of British Supersport champion Alastair Seeley and Josh Brookes, plus Luca Scassa and Ian Lowry on Clive Padgett's Hondas, the Rapid Solicitors duo of Shane Byrne and Stuart Easton and WFR Honda trio Graeme Gowland, Alex Lowes and James Westmoreland and it is clear Hill will have to bring nothing less than his A game to retain the BSB title in 2012.
