Bridewell secures last minute BSB ride
4 April 2012
Tommy Bridewell has secured a place on the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship grid just two days before the start of the season after landing the sole remaining ride at Supersonic BMW.
Bridewell, who rode with Tyco Honda and Motorpoint Yamaha in 2011, had looked set for a spell on the sidelines after failing to secure a BSB ride, but has now been handed a reprieve with Supersonic BMW after its original signing Anthony West opted for a sudden return to Moto2.
The 23-year-old, who claimed his best BSB finish of third during last year's season opener at Brands Hatch, is delighted with the last minute deal and is looking forward to getting back into competition, despite the lack of preparation.
"After a hard winter and looking like I might not get a ride at all in the championship, it was great to get a call from Danilo to ask if I could ride with the team at Brands Hatch,” he told the BSB website. “I am genuinely excited as all winter I have been preparing non-stop for the season and to look like I wouldn't be on the grid was not a good feeling.
“I would do anything in the world to race and with this ride I feel re-energised and I really am looking forward to it. I need to use my head at Brands Hatch and get solid results for the team."
Supersonic BMW joins the BSB ranks following two seasons spent in the World Superbike Championship as a Ducati customer team. With Bridewell replacing ex-MotoGP rider West, the Italian team will line-up consist of the Wiltshire man and Swiss racer Patric Muff.
