Byrne throws down gauntlet on day one
Tyco TAS Suzuki's Alastair Seeley was next, followed by WFR Honda's James Westmoreland, GB Moto Honda's Tristan Palmer and Chris Walker on the Bournemouth Pr1mo Kawasaki, who rounded out the top ten.

Alex Lowes, second fastest in FP1, was unable to match his time of 46.287s as he finished 11th in FP2 with a time of 46.402s.

Jon Kirkham on the second Samsung Honda was 12th and Michael Rutter 13th on the MSS Bathams Kawasaki.

Noriyuki Haga improved on his time to finish in 15th position in FP2, 0.649s off the pace on his Swan Yamaha YZF-R1, while Lowry's team-mate, Luca Scassa, was 16th.

A little more than a second covered the leading top 20 riders.
