Mason, Foray deliver double top ten for Quattro Plant
11 April 2012
Quattro Plant Kawasaki head into the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship bristling with confidence after its riders Gary Mason and Freddy Foray notched up a pair of top ten finishes between them at the Brands Hatch opener.
One of four two-man Kawasaki teams on the BSB grid this season, Quattro Plant came into the weekend with fairly limited track testing, a fact reflected as both Mason and Foray struggled to match the top ten times.
Nonetheless, the arrival of rain for both qualifying and the race served to invigorate each rider, with Foray even managing to secure a spot on the second row for his BSB debut, while Mason was 12th.
Come race day it was Mason who emerged as team leader, the former BSB Cup champion using his experience climb the order and claim fifth position at the chequered flag, much to his delight.
“I am delighted with this weekend's result,” he said. “To come away in the top six and on the front row of the grid for the re-run is the best possible start to the season. Coming to Brands Hatch we were a little on the back foot with testing, but we managed to pull it all together when it mattered, which is fantastic for the team.”
Former World Endurance Champion Foray, meanwhile, couldn't replicate his qualifying form over the course of the race but was at least able to stay upright to finish in a respectable ninth position himself.
“The track conditions today were very slippery. After my 20th near miss I managed to stay focused and change my riding style, so I really pleased with my top 10 finish, but a little disappointed I could not go faster. The bike is performing well, but we still have to make some changes to get it where I would like it to be. My 9th place is a good result for me and the team.”
