Rutter aims to build on podium result at Thruxton

12 April 2012

Michael Rutter is hopeful of building on a superb podium result at Brands Hatch when the MCE British Superbike Championship visits Thruxton this weekend.

Rutter put his superior riding skills in the wet to perfect use as he finished in third behind Jon Kirkham and Alastair Seeley on the Brands Indy circuit.

The Midlands rider is adept at riding in the damp, but Rutter is hoping for dry weather at the Hampshire circuit as he strives for a solid haul of points to strengthen his case for a Showdown slot at the end of the season.

The MSS Kawasaki team has an impressive record at Thruxton and qualified in pole position in 2011 with stand-in rider Alex Lowes.

Rutter also covered himself in glory as he edged Shane 'Shakey' Byrne to take the runner-up spot at the final corner, while Peter Hickman – who joins Rutter in the MSS colours in 2012 – excelled in both races, enjoying spells at the front and claiming his maiden BSB rostrum finish with second place in race two.

Rutter said: “People think I go looking for rain, not true. I've just had some good results in the wet but I'm also well aware how easily you can slip off.

“We obviously had a fantastic result at Brands and we made some dramatic changes to the bike on Sunday which worked well in those conditions and we think will even help the bike in the dry.

“We need to hopefully get a dry session in as early as possible at Thruxton and we'll know where we are,” he added.

“My aim is to stay up in that top six 'Title Fighters' group as I get even more used to the bike.”
