Bridewell cracks top five for BMW at Oulton

8 May 2012

Tommy Bridewell has moved himself into a threatening position in the MCE British Superbike Championship standings after notching a trio of impressive results for himself and Supersonic BMW at Oulton Park.

The 23-year-old, who was only officially confirmed as Supersonic BMW's full-time rider heading into the third round of the season, has been one of the revelations of the 2012 season thus far following impressive outings at Brands Hatch and Thruxton, Bridewell going on to prove similarly competitive at Oulton Park.

Finishing the first race of the weekend – a re-run of the cancelled Brands Hatch event - in fifth position, marking the first time a BMW has finished inside the top five at BSB level, Bridewell consolidated that with seventh in the damp conditions of race two, before going fifth again in race three.

A trio of excellent results for himself and the Italian-based Supersonic team, which is making its BSB debut in 2012, Bridewell has risen to seventh in the overall standings and is now poised to challenge for a provisional Showdown spot.

"The conditions were tricky in race one (first race on Sunday). Track was drying but we had to go on wets. Seventh position was as good as we could do. The bike was working well and I felt comfortable. We had a poor start in race two to be fair, which was a shame from the front row, so I had to keep calm and stay focused to pull it back to fifth in the end.

“I made some good moves on other riders so it was a really good race and leaving with two fifth places and a seventh is pretty good for me and the team as Patric did also very well. I think everyone is happy with how it all worked out this weekend."

Adding to Supersonic BMW's joy, Bridewell's team-mate Patric Muff also enjoyed his most competitive BSB meeting yet as he cracked the top ten for the first time with eighth in race two.

"After a good warm-up session this morning where I finished 11th I felt confident for the two races. It started to rain just before the first race so all of a sudden we had to change everything. My crew decided to change the whole set-up and after a ten minute free practice we were ready on the grid.

“I had a great start, a good first lap and was on eighth position. The bike felt good and I was able to run with the guys in top ten. I ended up eighth, which is my best result in BSB so far.

Second race in dry conditions was fine but I was not able to get more than a 14th place. All in all I had a really good weekend. I was in top 15 in every session and I hope we can build on these results in the future. Last but not the least - big thanks to the whole Supersonic Team because they did a great job!"
