Podiums mean prizes for Brookes at Oulton

8 May 2012

Josh Brookes remains just one point behind Tommy Hill in the MCE British Superbike Championship standings despite being unable to turn in a victory at Oulton Park.

Following his impressive win at Thruxton, Brookes came to Oulton Park optimistic that he could challenge for victory in all three races, but while he was a contender on each occasion, he couldn't translate that into a spot on the top step of the podium.

Nonetheless, two third place finishes and a fourth ensure Brookes has followed Hill and Shane Byrne in establishing a fairly healthy margin over the remainder of the competition after three rounds.

“I'm happy with the podiums this weekend but obviously a little disappointed not to get my first win at Oulton. It was a tough weekend with changeable weather conditions and we've come away with solid points; that's always a bonus.

“We led the championship briefly after race two but we're still within striking distance. We're in the right place and if I can keep racking up podiums and credits then I'll be a in a good position come the cut off.”

The Tyco Suzuki rider is one point behind Hill and four points up on Byrne in the overall standings, while the latter has a 30 point cushion to Stuart Easton in fourth.
