Mason splits with Quattro Plant Kawasaki
14 June 2012
Gary Mason has announced he has parted ways with the Quattro Plant PR Kawasaki team ahead of the fifth MCE British Superbike Championship round at Knockhill.
The former BSB Cup champion joined the privateer Kawasaki team after two years with the manufacturer-supported MSS Colchester Kawasaki, but having made a bright start with a run to fifth during the wet season opener at Brands Hatch, Mason has only scored three points thereafter.
Retiring with mechanical issues in each of the last three races, a disappointed Mason has thus opted to call time on his tenure with Quattro Plant PR Kawasaki after four events.
"Continued technical failures leave me languishing in 19th position in the Championship with only two-point scoring finishes and six non-finishes,” a statement read.
“A lack of pre-season testing due to budgetary restrictions can be held mainly responsible for this sad situation and my disappointment has been further compounded when the team was unable to meet its contracted commitments in recent months.
"I've therefore taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the team with immediate effect. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my loyal sponsors, particularly John Murphy at Quattro Plant, for their ongoing support.”
Mason also enjoyed a one-off outing in the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park aboard the Pedercini Kawasaki in place of David Salom, but didn't score any points.
