Lowry slip sees him slide out of top six
10 July 2012
Ian Lowry hopes of progressing to the MCE British Superbike 'Title Showdown' received a set-back at Oulton Park after a DNF cost him his spot in the overall top six.
The Thruxton race winner has suffered with inconsistent form since breaking his BSB victory duck in April and has steadily been reeled in by the likes of Tommy Bridewell and Noriyuki Haga in the standings.
Crashing out of the first race when he clipped the kerb at the Brittens chicane, costing him a potential top five result, Lowry's ensuing sixth and seventh place finishes have seen him drop from fifth to seventh in the overall standings, four points behind Haga.
Despite this, the Padgetts Honda rider was satisfied to have performed significantly better at Oulton Park this weekend than he did at the same circuit earlier in the season and is confident he can return to better results at the upcoming Brands Hatch round.
"I'm pretty happy with the weekend as its miles better than when we were here in May which was my worst weekend this year. The Padgetts Honda team worked really hard over the weekend but we did have to make a lot of changes and with the wet weather on Friday we were a little bit on the back foot.
“We got things sorted for qualifying and managed to put it on the front row, I was just unlucky in the first race and touched the engine casing and that was me out. However Sunday was better and I came away with some pretty solid points but sadly I dropped out of the shoot out six so I really need to get my head down over the next few races to get back into the final six.
“I don't know why but for the first time in ages I was suffering with arm pump and it's not something I've had problems with before, it started in the first race and flared up again in race two. I want to get to Brands now and get some good results there."
