Laverty misses podium, consolidates position

10 July 2012

Michael Laverty admits he is happy to be leaving Oulton Park behind him after failing to make it onto the podium during the MCE British Superbike Championship triple-header.

The Samsung Honda rider came into the round as the form man having won races at Snetterton and Knockhill, performances that have all but firmed his place in the forthcoming 'Title Showdown'.

This, coupled to the comfortable gap up to Tommy Hill, Shane Byrne and Josh Brookes in the standings, means Laverty will spend the coming rounds attempting to notch up podium credits to strengthen his title bid over the final three events.

However, it was an objective he was unable to fulfil at Oulton Park as he crashed out of race one, just missed the rostrum for fourth in race two and faded to fifth in race three.

“To be honest I am glad the weekend is over now and I am looking forward to Brands Hatch. Oulton Park has never been a good circuit for me and it is always a fight but fourth and fifths helped consolidate our position in the Showdown.

“The pace was close to the leaders but we just didn't have that last bit, despite making improvements throughout the weekend. It is the way it goes sometimes but overall it has been a disappointing weekend although it could have been worse.”
