Lowry targets Haga in Showdown bid

21 August 2012

Ian Lowry needs no incentive to take the bull by the horns at the eighth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park this weekend.

The Ulsterman is just seven points behind Swan Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga, who occupies the final place in the top six Showdown places ahead of the Bank Holiday meeting.

And Padgett's Honda rider Lowry, who claimed his first BSB victory at Thruxton earlier in the season, says he will 'give his all' to break into the Showdown positions on the Honda Fireblade on Monday.

“I think I am unfortunate to be where I am in the points ahead of Cadwell Park,” he said.

“We had a tough time at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch GP and other than that it has been some bad luck really, but I am confident in my own ability and the hard work of the team.

“We are this close in the standings as there have been other riders there to pick up the pieces and points when we have had bad luck but that is racing,” added Lowry.

“Cadwell Park is a fun track to ride but a challenging one to race on but in the past it has been a good track for me, even back to the Yamaha R6 Cup and Supersport days.”

Lowry tested at Donington Park during the championship break, but has swiftly ruled out using the new parts tested by the team.

“We had a good test at Donington Park and although we had a run out on some new parts they weren't suited to me but we wanted to try them so in that respect it was a beneficial exercise and didn't lose us time during a race weekend,” added Lowry on the official British Superbike website.

“We were pleased that we can now rule that option out and we are going back to what we had before and working on some new ideas for Cadwell Park.

“We are all pretty close for the top six and I will be giving it my all because we need to capitalise if we have the chance,” he added.

“We tested at Cadwell Park pre-season and even then we were able to do some decent lap times and that was before we started racing.

“I'm really fired up now for the event and I can't wait to get cracking.”
