Fresh from signing a new deal to remain with Tyco Suzuki in the MCE British Superbike Championship in 2013, Josh Brookes is fired up for the opening Showdown round this weekend at Assen.
The Aussie threw down the gauntlet to reigning champion Tommy Hill with a sublime double in the previous round at Donington
Park and is intent on closing the Swan Yamaha star's 10-point advantage at the top of the standings.
Brookes is also wary of the threat posed by Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty and the returning Shane Byrne on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki as he ramps up his bid to land the BSB
crown for the first time.
“I don't want to discount any of the riders in the top six as they are all worthy of a place there, but I think Tommy, Michael (Laverty) and 'Shakey' (Byrne) now he is back, stand out and are probably an equal threat to me,” Brookes told the official British Superbike website.
“Points-wise Tommy leads the championship into the Showdown, but Shakey has a wealth of experience that he can draw from and Michael also has the speed, but like I said we are all title contenders.”
series is new to the iconic Assen circuit and Brookes is relishing the opportunity to battle for honours at the legendary race track.
“To go to a new circuit especially Assen is just brilliant. It isn't far away and it will definitely spice it up.
“It is the first race there and it will be an experience to be part of and as a rider I can't wait to get on track,” he added.
“It is such a big, fast open circuit and with the competition we have in BSB, I expect it be a great combination for exciting races.
“The results at Donington
Park were good for the whole Tyco Suzuki team and we seemed to push on to the next level and that is great for us going in to the Showdown, especially as Assen and Silverstone
have very similar characteristics.”
