Laverty crestfallen after 'worst day of season'
Michael Laverty's hopes of landing the MCE British Superbike title took a battering at Assen as the Ulsterman took a backward step on his “worst day of the season”.

The Samsung Honda rider finished in seventh place in both races, dropping points and slipping to fifth position overall in the series after being overtaken by fellow Honda man Alex Lowes.

Laverty conceded it had been a “horrible” start to the Showdown stage of the championship and blamed tyre problems for his below-par performances.

“That was a horrible day for me that had promised so much. Coming at the start of the Showdown this is my worst day of the season,” he said.

“We had been working so hard and had a good pace but we were always worrying about tyre choice for the races.

“In the first race we used the softer compound which had good pace, but it wore and I dropped back down the field to seventh.

“For the second race we used the harder tyre but we couldn't get the grip,” added Laverty.

“That has put me on the back foot and I have to come back strongly at Silverstone. It has been so frustrating as I couldn't get the result that I wanted.”

Laverty is 38 points behind championship leader Josh Brookes ahead of this weekend' penultimate round of the series at Silverstone.

Donkey!!!!!!!!! Could race a wheel barrow faster. He has had some fantastic chances and just can't cut it. Maybe he is better suited to a 600, Alex lowes, a rookie is outclassing him on a private Honda, not a factory one. Farmers the man of the moment.
