Shane Byrne will go into qualifying for the final round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship as the favourite for pole position after dominating third free practice at Brands Hatch.
The championship leader with just three races remaining, Byrne was in control for much of the session as he lowered his marker to 1min 26.096secs.
Going a full six tenths faster than the opposition, Karl Harris was once again a surprise front runner as he chased the leaders on the Quattro Plant Kawasaki, the 'Bomber' getting amongst the title contenders of Josh Brookes in third and Alex Lowes in fourth, the FP2 pace setter suffering a fall that damaged the WFR Honda, but leaving him otherwise unhurt.
Michael Laverty rounded out the top five, ahead of James Westmoreland and Chris Walker, while Tommy Hill headed up the Buildbase BMW pair of Peter Hickman and Barry Burrell in eighth, ninth and tenth.
