Triple DNF but Lowes clings onto fourth

15 October 2012

While Alex Lowes's triple DNF from the final round of the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship would prove quite the come down from his spectacular run of recent form, WFR Honda team manager Myles Schofield was nonetheless thrilled to end the year with fourth in the overall standings.

In with a shout of the title following his double win at Silverstone, Lowes's Brands Hatch weekend began well with his run to pole position, but he would suffer poor fortune in each of the three races from podium-winning positions.

Coming down from second place as rain began to fall in race one, Lowes would retire with technical issues in race two before a last lap collision with Michael Laverty in race three made it a trio of non-scores.

Nonetheless, Lowes was still able to cling onto fourth place in the overall standings, while James Westmoreland's confirmation in seventh for the 'BSB Riders' Cup' left Schofield pleased with the outcome of the 2012 season.

“Obviously I'm a little disappointed to end our season with three DNFs for Alex considering our recent run of form, but at the same time, if you'd told me in back in April that we'd finish fourth in the British Superbike Championship I wouldn't have believed you so I'm delighted all the same.

“I'm made up for Westy after he narrowly missed out in the Showdown and the championship standings prove that he has been the seventh fastest rider all year, in fact most of the time he's been getting results higher than that.”
