MV Agusta set for BSB return in 2013
30 October 2012
Iconic Italian manufacturer MV Agusta is set to make a return to the MCE British Superbike Championship in 2013 as part of a team being created by franchised dealership Robinsons of Rochdale.
According to a press release from the company, Robinsons of Rochdale with enter a pair of MV Agusta F4-RRs next season and will receive factory assistance from the manufacturer, as well as UK importer MotoGB.
Though manager Steve Rostron admits the project is an ambitious one, he is confident the additional backing from the manufacturer will see the bikes prove competitive.
“These are exciting times for MV Agusta and British racing in general. The MSV-run BSB series is the best domestic series in the world, so it's little wonder that MV Agusta want the UK series to be the crucible in which their amazing updated F4-RR is tested against the best machines and riders from around the globe.
“We are under no illusions as to the work ahead to ensure the machine's competitiveness in the heat of this intense competition, but with the backing of the factory and with some exciting future developments we hope to get the MV Agusta name back on the map in British racing.
“We intend to run a strong, two-man team so we can develop the F4 into a true championship contender. Much of the infrastructure is already in place, as the team will feature race hospitality that will seat 50 people, a top-line team manager and two riders – all of whom are yet to be named.”
The team will announce more details, including riders, when it is officially launched at a later date.
MV Agusta has not competed on the BSB stage since 2009 when STP-JHS Racing entered the F4-1000 for a handful of rounds.
