Alex Lowes has eye on the prize
17 January 2013
Alex Lowes is chomping at the bit to have his first taste of action on the Samsung Honda Fireblade as he counts down the days to the beginning of the British Superbike Championship.
Lowes has joined the team in a new-look line-up that includes triple BSB champion Ryuichi Kiyonari for 2013.
The Lincoln man ended the campaign last year as the leading Honda rider, finishing fourth overall.
Lowes spent Christmas and the New Year with his brother Sam in Las Vegas and has since been working hard on his fitness as his focus switches solely to the season ahead, which he describes as his “biggest ever”.
“It feels like a long time since the final round at Brands Hatch last year now and a lot has been going on, but we still have 78 days until the first race at Brands Hatch – not that I have been counting!” Lowes told the official British Superbike website.
“I have been back in training since the start of January and it's all going well. I train with Kirk Gibbons and we are really working hard ready for this year.
“Kirk also trains Sam and Leon (Haslam) so we all spend most days together,” he added.
“We've been doing a lot of trials riding, golfing and mountain biking which as you can imagine all gets very competitive.
“Sam and Leon are heading off to Spain for testing next week, so they have been winding me up as I have to wait to ride the Samsung Honda for the first time.”
Lowes has also spent time at the Honda workshop to acquaint himself with his new team, although he already knows crew chief Ian Prestwood well.
“I have spent a few days up at the team workshop getting to know the boys and I can't wait to get started.
“I've known my Crew chief Ian Prestwood for a long time as he lives close to my parents in Lincoln,” added Lowes.
“We get on really well and I am looking forward to working with him.
“The team are busy getting all the bikes ready for when we start testing and before then I have a couple of bike shows and open days to do as well as getting prepared for the season, which is going to be the biggest year yet for me.”
