Shakedown for GBmoto Honda newcomers
9 March 2013
Peter Hickman and Dan Linfoot have begun their preparations for the 2013 MCE British Superbike Championship season after completing a shakedown with GBmoto at Snetterton.
Despite being hampered by inclement weather initially, both Hickman and Linfoot were able to get a useful number of laps on their respective CBR1000RRs in preparation for the first official pre-season test of the season, taking place at Donington Park on 14th March.
For Hickman, who is returning to Honda machinery after a year spent riding the MSS Bathams Kawasaki and the Buildbase BMW, he was pleased to be getting reacquainted with the bike he has enjoyed the most success during his BSB career.
"The first test of the season always feels good after the winter and today has been really good,” he told the BSB website. “I have been working with my crew chief Tim Allen, who used to work with me when I was at Tyco Honda in 2011, so he had a really good idea on the simple things to get me comfortable so we haven't changed anything to the bike yet.
“I am really looking forward now to the official tests as we can get some more laps in, but I am already impressed as the bike hasn't missed a beat today."
Hickman's sentiments were echoed by new team-mate Linfoot, who returns to BSB competition after spending a half-season racing in the World Supersport Championship.
"I am certainly grinning from ear to ear after blowing the winter cobwebs away today; it has been a bit of a shame with the weather, but our aim was just to give the bikes a run out before the official tests and we have achieved that. The Honda feels lovely to ride and to be back on a Superbike after riding in Supersport has given me a real buzz.
“The team have done a mega job and we can now go to Donington next week with the first running completed. We already have a really good starting point as Matt Llewellyn obviously had a lot of experience with the Hondas last season with WFR, so we have ended the day happy and ready for the official tests."
GBmoto Honda made its BSB debut last year with Tristan Palmer and Luke Quigley, notching up 26 points in total.
