Josh Brookes gave himself the edge at the end of the fourth and final day of pre-season testing for the MCE British Superbike Championship at Snetterton, the Australian just edging out James Ellison.
The Tyco Suzuki rider, who skipped the Donington Park and Brands Hatch tests, lapped the Norfolk circuit in 1min 51.959secs, three tenths faster than series returnee James Ellison on the Milwaukee Yamaha.
However, his lap time wasn't enough to displace Alex Lowes, whose lap from the morning session was enough to keep half a second between himself and the 2012 runner-up. Lowes and team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari did not venture out for the afternoon session.
After posting some encouraging lap times at Donington Park, James Westmoreland was quick again for new employers Buildbase BMW in third position, ahead of Jakub Smrz, who has done all he can now to try and secure the investment he needs to ride the Padgetts Honda full-time in 2013.
Ellison's team-mate Josh Waters continued to get up to speed in fifth place, ahead of Bathams Honda's Tommy Bridewell and Jon Kirkham on the second of the Buildbase BMWs, while Howie Mainwaring, Lee Costello and Karl Harris rounded out the top ten as the other remaining riders on track.
As well as Lowes and Kiyonari, Matteo Baiocco and PJ Jacobsen did not hit the track in the afternoon.
Attention now turns to the opening round of the BSB season, taking place at Brands Hatch in just over two weeks' time.
